Yup. How far have we come since then?
I was first introduced to GSN®---formerly known as
Game Show Network---in May 1999, when our family decided to switch to COX Digital Cable. (I was still in college, then!!) Boy, what a trip that was. I still have VHS recordings from that bygone era.
Now that it made its big "upgrade" in March, a few oldies-but-goodies are left:
Card Sharks (Perry & Eubanks),
Blockbusters, Match Game, Family Feud, Press Your Luck, Hollywood Squares (Bergeron),
Love Connection, The Newlywed Game...oh, and leave us not forget B&W Overnight. Repeats of the game shows in the Barry-Enright library and
The $XX0,000 Pyramid have since been virtually rendered nonexistent. And it's painfully apparent that we can never see Classic
TPIR again.
"Gimme Games"? No, thanks. That's why they have ESPN.
Nope, game
shows are more my bag. It's nice to stay on the cutting edge with new programming, but there are those of us who still have a yen for nostalgia. Bring back more of the classics.
